The LED Cube kit is an animated 3D cube of LEDs made by modifying the MiniPOV! It's been a popular hack, and now all the parts are available in a kit from the Maker Shed.

The LED Cube kit is an animated 3x3x3 cube composed of 27 individual single-color LEDs. This project was a popular hack of the MiniPOV, and now the Maker Shed carries a kit that contains all the parts needed to make you own. The LED Cube kit was inspired by the amazing color 3D Borg cube by Das-Labor.

Andrew Stock created a super-easy-to-use web-based tool that lets you visually design your own animation patterns for the LEDcube. The results can be easily pasted into the LEDcube firmware and programmed into the LEDcube. (When creating Code, choose “Height-depth-width order”). His web-based tool can be found here. (works best using Firefox)

Kids use the 21 snap-together parts (no tools required) to build 6 different working models including an airboat, car, windmill, puppy, and 2 different airplanes. Solar building kits teach children the benefits of solar energy, while they create a toy that’s fun to play with and requires no batteries. Educators, science museums, and hobbyists will surely appreciate the durability, educational value, and endless hours of amusement for children and adults too! Ages 10 and up.

Employing a centuries old secret artisan technique collected from real Edo-period figures, the Karakuri Somersault Doll kit includes everything you need to create your own acrobatic doll (even the screwdriver!), plus a festive traditional kimono and a stylish tiered pedestal on which to stage performances. Moreover, with you pulling the strings, you can adjust the mechanism to control the velocity of the doll's action.

A couple of weeks ago, we posted about our pal I-Wei (Crabfu) being featured in the latest Gakken magazine/kit dedicated to kinetic sculptor Theo Jansen's Strandbeest walker. I-Wei built the mini walker kit and was pretty pleased with it. But his maker heart remained restless. He could make it better, faster, stronger... rodent-powered?

And so, after some modifications involving a hamster ball, mounting brackets, and a Meccano sprocket and chain, the tightly-wound hamster, Princess, was borrowed from a friend and press-ganged into service. The result is the ominous Jansen Hamster Walker. Go Princess, go!

Next step: weaponizing the platform. I kid, I KID. Princess the rodent-walker hybrid is a lover, not a fighter. For now.
